Los Angeles has a couple of really nice museums. Although I believe the most outstanding works of art and works of famous European artists are in Europe, here the architecture of the museum buildings and the overall experience of a visit are astonishing. The focus of the museums on modern art is also interesting. Keep in mind; most museums are closed on Mondays and for most museums you can book a ticket online; for The Broad this is a must! The Broad   The Broad is a modern museum in Downtown LA  (DTLA) with an awesome entrance of which I won't reveal the surprise. The entrance is free, but book your tickets online and in advance to avoid wasting half a day standing in line. Also, as long as there's a special exhibition, you might have to sign up to see this as soon as you enter the museum. At this moment, Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirrored Rooms are temporarily closed due to the pandemic, but hopefully they will be open soon. Book your tickets well in advance at   ...

Broadway in Downtown LA (DTLA) used to be like Broadway in New York, with theaters, the lighting billboards and glamour. That’s all gone. Now you’ll find homeless people on every corner and it’s become more of a business district. Still, you can find some nice spots if you know what to look for and where. Everything is more or less at walking distance, although some parts are less interesting for walking. At the bottom of this blog you'll find a walk that combines almost every spot  described! Grand Central Market This is a food hall with all kinds of food, from breakfast to a late night snack. Here, everyone can find something of their liking; from German bratwurst to superfood smoothies. Some of my favorites are Eggslut;  here you get the famous 'Slut', a coddled (kind of poached) egg on top of mashed potatoes. Also nice for breakfast are the sandwiches, of course with eggs. Photo of a drawing by Wendy Bos LA is very big compared to a lot of other cities (see picture below). There’s not 1 center, it’s a sprawling city and you can’t just walk from one activity to another. Driving from Downtown (business center) to Pasadena can take at least 20 to 30 minutes for instance, depending on the traffic. And driving from Venice to Hollywood can take around 40 minutes. Public transport is not widely available, connections aren’t always convenient and it’s relatively expensive. Renting a car is therefore highly recommended! It is not very expensive and gasoline is (still) cheap. Also recommended is taking a data bundle for your smartphone if you're from out of the US, as apps like Google Maps, Lyft and Uber are crucial to find your way in LA.
