About me

Hi and welcome on my blog! 

My name is Sarah and in November 2018 I moved with my husband from Maastricht, the Netherlands to Los Angeles. I'm an 'in between jobs' Special Education Specialist and singer/guitarist and the founder & host of Catch Up Crew, a news podcast for kids. Since my move I've been exploring Los Angeles and it's surroundings as much as I can and I would like to share all the awesome things LA has to offer, as well as what I'm up to.

Many people visit Los Angeles when making a trip through California and often come back disappointed. A lot of highlights of the city as they are described by guidebooks are full of tourists, dirty parts of the city and definitely not the city's finest. That's why I would like to help you make your trip more pleasant and unique, and make you fall in love with this city as well!

 Apart from exploring the city I love making music. I write my own songs, make covers, co-write or record vocals for friends and my husband in the film music industry. On this blog I'll share some of those projects.

 Furthermore, I like to be busy in and around our little house. I'm crafty, love cooking and am trying to get my fingers greener. If there's stuff that's shareable, you'll find it here!

Herman Brood (Friendship Bread)

During this weird time, I, amongst many others, started baking and discovered how easy it is to make a 'levain', or sourdough starter. It reminded me of when i was a child and received 'herman' from a friend. and a couple of years after me, my brothers also both received herman from a friend. i remember how much fun we had taking care of him, feeding him, stirring him and eventually, eating him! plus sharing him with friends. and i thought to myself, what a wonderful time to bring this joyful experience to my friends! Herman A KIND OF BREAD/CAKE BASED ON A SOURDOUGH STARTER THAT IS BEING PASSED ON TO FRIENDS like a CHAIN LETTER. AFTER YOU GET IT FROM A FRIEND IT TAKES 10 DAYS BEFORE YOU BAKE IT, AND ON DAY 9 YOU PASS PARTS OF THE DOUGH ON TO 3 OF YOUR FRIENDS. in english it's known as 'amish friendship bread', although it's not clear how it got this name, because it doesn't seem to have any connection to the amish culture. what we do know i

Museums

Los Angeles has a couple of really nice museums. Although I believe the most outstanding works of art and works of famous European artists are in Europe, here the architecture of the museum buildings and the overall experience of a visit are astonishing. The focus of the museums on modern art is also interesting. Keep in mind; most museums are closed on Mondays and for most museums you can book a ticket online; for The Broad this is a must! The Broad   The Broad is a modern museum in Downtown LA  (DTLA) with an awesome entrance of which I won't reveal the surprise. The entrance is free, but book your tickets online and in advance to avoid wasting half a day standing in line. Also, as long as there's a special exhibition, you might have to sign up to see this as soon as you enter the museum. At this moment, Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirrored Rooms are temporarily closed due to the pandemic, but hopefully they will be open soon. Book your tickets well in advance at   ht
