This is my favorite song of Joni Mitchell: Both Sides Now.

This song was written by Joni Mitchell in 1966, but was first recorded by Judi Collins. I love music from this time period and especially from the West Coast (maybe even more since our move here. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, The Beach Boys, The Birds, The Doors, The Creedence Clearwater Revival. But, no one beats the women; Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin and Joan Baez.

 Both Sides Now (also known as 'Clouds') is about the difference between fantasy and reality. As Joni said as an introduction to the song in 1967:
"This is a song that talks about sides to things. In most cases there are both sides to things and in a lot of cases there are more than just both. His and a hers. His and theirs. But in this song there are only two sides to things… there’s reality and I guess what you might call fantasy. There’s enchantment and dis-enchantment, what we’re taught to believe things are and what they really are."

 I've played this song for my final exam at the conservatory, open mics and on a lot of other occasions, but we finally recorded this song in March 2020 in Los Angeles.

Herman Brood (Friendship Bread)

During this weird time, I, amongst many others, started baking and discovered how easy it is to make a 'levain', or sourdough starter. It reminded me of when i was a child and received 'herman' from a friend. and a couple of years after me, my brothers also both received herman from a friend. i remember how much fun we had taking care of him, feeding him, stirring him and eventually, eating him! plus sharing him with friends. and i thought to myself, what a wonderful time to bring this joyful experience to my friends! Herman A KIND OF BREAD/CAKE BASED ON A SOURDOUGH STARTER THAT IS BEING PASSED ON TO FRIENDS like a CHAIN LETTER. AFTER YOU GET IT FROM A FRIEND IT TAKES 10 DAYS BEFORE YOU BAKE IT, AND ON DAY 9 YOU PASS PARTS OF THE DOUGH ON TO 3 OF YOUR FRIENDS. in english it's known as 'amish friendship bread', although it's not clear how it got this name, because it doesn't seem to have any connection to the amish culture. what we do know i

Museums

Los Angeles has a couple of really nice museums. Although I believe the most outstanding works of art and works of famous European artists are in Europe, here the architecture of the museum buildings and the overall experience of a visit are astonishing. The focus of the museums on modern art is also interesting. Keep in mind; most museums are closed on Mondays and for most museums you can book a ticket online; for The Broad this is a must! The Broad   The Broad is a modern museum in Downtown LA  (DTLA) with an awesome entrance of which I won't reveal the surprise. The entrance is free, but book your tickets online and in advance to avoid wasting half a day standing in line. Also, as long as there's a special exhibition, you might have to sign up to see this as soon as you enter the museum. At this moment, Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirrored Rooms are temporarily closed due to the pandemic, but hopefully they will be open soon. Book your tickets well in advance at   ht
